CALL FOR PAPERS & REPORTS

“Catholic Social Teaching and Worker Justice”
A Scholarly Conference Convened by

Catholic Scholars for Worker Justice and Villanova University

Villanova University, 22-24 March 2010

Completed scholarly papers on Catholic Social Teaching or themes linked to Catholic Social Teaching, and scholarly reports on works in progress, on organizing campaigns, or on positive examples of Catholic Social Teaching at work in Catholic institutions, are invited in relation to the following themes:

§   Worker justice, including the purpose and role of unions, living wage, working conditions, worker dignity, labor law reform, and other relevant issues

§   International labor movements & the global economy, including worker exploitation and repression, international immigration, international solidarity, legislative actions, and other relevant issues

§   Ecology & the green economy, including green labor initiatives, new jobs in the green economy, education for students in the green economy, adapting work for a green economy, and other relevant issues.

Papers & reports should apply Catholic Social Teaching to these or related issues, or illuminate related new research in the business, education, humanities, social, natural sciences or public policy measures that can be brought into dialogue with Catholic Social Teaching in relation to any of the above themes.

Manuscripts for completed papers should be submitted to Dr. Barbara Wall, Vice-President for Mission and Ministry, 202 Vasey Hall, Villanova University, Villanova PA 19085 (barbara.wall@villanova.edu). Finished papers must be submitted by December 31, 2009 for consideration. Papers may be selected for the conference as well as for publication in the Journal of Catholic Social Thought. Proposals for Reports on works in progress, on organizing campaigns, and on positive examples at Catholic institutions should be submitted to Dr. Joseph J. Fahey, Chairperson, Catholic Scholars for Worker Justice, joseph.fahey@manhattan.com (914.948.2993). For these reports there will be one or more special workshops convened by Catholic Scholars for Worker Justice.

Graduate students from all disciplines are especially invited to explore thesis and dissertation topics, or to present reports on their theses and dissertations. For graduate students, some financial assistance for travel may be available from Catholic Scholars for Worker Justice, if funds cannot be obtained from their institutions.
