Steve Affanato is the Executive Vice President of NEMCA, which represents premier mechanical construction firms throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Steve and his team provide their contractors with labor relations, government relations, educational opportunities, outreach, and much more. On working and bargaining with unions, Steve said, “They have their job to do, and we have ours. But we work together to reach fair deals.“
Beyond his work with NEMCA, Steve serves as an Employer Trustee on joint training funds with a wide range of building trades unions. Steve has demonstrated a strong commitment to recruiting and training new people for good jobs in the building trades. Some of these recruitment efforts have included outreach to Vocational Education students, as well as support programs like Helmets to Hardhats for veterans and Building Pathways for inner city women and minorities.
In his CGA Management Award reception speech, Steve spoke to the positive, collaborative relationships between labor and management in the building trades. He said, “Both sides have a saying: ‘without them, there’s no us, and without us, there is no them.'”
