Organization Overview:

The Labor Guild is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and an affiliate of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston with roots deeply imbedded in social and economic justice. The Guild works closely with labor unions and community organizations in the Greater Boston area and throughout New England. Our mission is to promote economic and social justice, good order in the workplace, to teach workers to act in good conscience and judgment and to provide workers with the knowledge and the courage to be effective in the Labor/Management environment.<

Position Summary:

Responsible for general office manager functions in support of the Labor Guild.

Accountability:

  • Reports to the Labor Guild’s Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • The office manager provides services and support to the Labor Guild’s membership.
  • Works in collaboration with the Labor Guild staff, Board and Boyle Fellows.
  • Communicates in writing, computer, telephone and through personal contact with individuals and groups.
  • Organizes own workload and established priorities.
  • Coordinates and schedules Guild School activities with the Executive Director, Registrar and the Chair of the Education Committee.
  • Coordinates and implements financial and accounting activities with the Executive Director and the Chair of the Finance Committee.
  • Coordinates, updates and supervises Guild data systems, including the website, with the Executive Director and Chair of the Technology Committee.
  • Coordinates and schedules activities with the Cushing Gavin Awards (CGA) Dinner with the Executive Director and the Chair of the CGA Committee
  • Coordinates and schedules with the Executive Director and the Chair of the Fundraising Committee the soliciting, formulating, and implementing grant proposals and other fundraising efforts.
  • Assists Executive Director in publishing, editing, and distributing all Guild publications, announcements as well as the Guild website (Laborguild.com).
  • Responsible for answering phone, checking voicemail and email messages, responding to questions and making appropriate referrals.
  • Key operator in the proper use and maintenance of all office equipment. Addresses maintenance needs with the Labor Guild’s Executive Director in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties and functions as required by the Labor Guild’s Executive Director and Board.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma is required.
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Additional computer proficiency desired (e.g., Adobe Acrobat DC, QuickBooks).
  3. Working knowledge of online meeting platforms (such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams) desired.
  4. Spelling and grammar competencies.
  5. Must be able to function with minimal direction.
  6. Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  7. Previous experience in membership organization – particularly labor desirable.
  8. Previous experience in major event planning and operations.
  9. Able to travel on occasion as work duties require.

Other:

  • Annual evaluation by the Executive Director.
  • This position is in a bargaining unit represented by the Mass. Nurses Association
  • Full-time (40 hours). Hours on daily basis defined in collaboration with the Executive Director taking into consideration various meetings scheduled at irregular hours.
  • Salary ($46,800 – $57,200). Health, retirement and other benefits in accordance with Guild/RCAB policies and CBA.
