Farewell and Congratulations, Father Pat

Labor Life – Midsummer 2012

In our last issue, Father Patrick Sullivan shared the news of his departure as our Chaplain/Executive Secretary. Despite an energy level at 83 that leaves youngsters in the dust, Father Sullivan’s year of weekend driving to visit two ailing siblings in the New York/New Jersey area took a toll. To be closer to his extended family, he quietly asked his order to reassign him. He’s back on familiar ground at the Holy Cross Fathers King’s College campus in Pennsylvania.

Father Pat Sullivan

Father Pat Sullivan actually sat still for two warm send-offs by the Labor Guild family. On June 13th, Guilders gathered at a delightful luncheon at Quincy’s Common Market that was hosted and generously underwritten by Robert J. Haynes of Haynes & Associates and the MA AFL-CIO’s President Emeritus. Fr. Pat was also honored at the Guild’s post-holiday celebration last February at
Quincy’s Neighborhood Club.

For three years, Father Sullivan was the Guild’s popular ambassador and public face in countless settings—delivering invocations at union and corporate functions, testifying before the legislature, speaking on panels at academic symposiums, and counseling individuals.

Whether in a pulpit, a convention hall, boardroom, sidewalk rally or warmly welcoming Guild students on a school night, Father Pat’s perspective, words and prayers routinely prompted the thoughtful head nod, appreciative laughter, and could bring a roomful of people to their feet.

Father Pat: You leave with our deep gratitude for your service to the Labor Guild. We truly wish abundant blessings upon you in all your endeavors. Bona fortuna!
