The Ken Grace Educational Fund

"I do law for labor, not labor for law." – Ken Grace

About the Fund

The Ken Grace Educational Fund honors the life and work of Ken Grace, a renowned labor attorney, educator, and advocate who dedicated his career to strengthening the voice of working people, especially those in public service. The Massachusetts Coalition of Police partnered with the Labor Guild to establish the Educational Fund to continue Ken’s legacy.

The Fund celebrates Ken’s enduring contributions by supporting students who aspire to carry forward his mission: to do law in service of labor.

Ken's Legacy

Ken graduated from Cornell University in 1973 with a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations, followed by a Master’s in Labor Studies from UMass Amherst in 1975. While at UMass, Ken began organizing for AFSCME Council 93, eventually becoming a business agent. He later earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from New England School of Law, where he served on the Law Review.

In 1985, he co-founded the law firm Sandulli-Grace, dedicating his career to negotiating hundreds of collective bargaining agreements and resolving grievances through arbitration and mediation on behalf of labor unions across Massachusetts.

Some of his firm’s major clients include the Massachusetts Coalition of Police, the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the Boston EMTs. Since 1982, hundreds of students have enjoyed Ken’s “Survey of Labor Relations,” one of the Labor Guild’s popular, core courses. That commitment to labor relations has inspired and energized others throughout his career.

Ken also served as a Boston Labor Guild faculty member for more than 30 years and received the prestigious Cushing-Gavin Award for Labor Attorneys in 2012.
