Meet our 2018 CGA Dinner Co-Chairs – Tom Flynn & Fred Laskey

The Labor Guild is delighted to announce our 2018 CGA Dinner Co-Chairs being held on Friday, November 30th at the IBEW #103 Function Hall in Dorchester MA.     
  • Our Labor Co-Chair is Thomas J. Flynn, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, New England Regional
    Carpenters Council (NERCC).
  • Our CGA Dinner Management Co-Chair is Frederick A. Laskey, Executive Director, Mass Water Resources Authority.

Tom Flynn was elected as the NERCC’s Executive Secretary-Treasurer in 2017.  Before assuming his post, Tom had served as the national political director for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. For seven years previously, he was the regional political director for NERCC and the executive director of the New England Carpenters Labor-Management Program. He has held a position on the NERCC Executive Board since 2010.
A member of the Carpenters union (Local 327) for over 30 years, Tom is a native of Dorchester, and now resides in Milton with his family. While previously working for NERCC, Flynn was the regional manager for affiliated local unions in the Boston area. He has been a trustee for the New England Carpenters Combined Benefit Funds and apprenticeship funds.

NERCC is the regional governing body of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) representing commercial and residential carpenters, pile drivers, floor coverers, mill shop workers and industrial employees in locals across New England and upstate New York.  More than 1,500 general contractors, carpentry subcontractors and shop owners are signatory to collective bargaining agreements with NERCC.

Fred Laskey has been responsible for implementing MWRA programs, policies and procedures at the direction of the Board as Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue from 1991 to 2001, managing the Commonwealth’s tax administration, child support enforcement and local services. He served as Secretary of Administration and Finance from 1998 to 1999. As Secretary, he was the Governor’s chief financial advisor, with oversight of the state’s $20 billion annual budget and managed the Cabinet Secretariat that oversees the entire state workforce. Before joining the Cabinet, Mr. Laskey served as Senior Deputy Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue from 1994 to 1998, and was designated by the Commissioner to serve as Assistant Secretary in the Executive Office for Administration and Finance. Mr. Laskey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
