Management Attorney Award, 2013

Demitrios Moschos, known as “D”, represents private and public sector management on labor and employment law issues. D founded and built his firm’s regional Labor and Employment practice, now thriving with ten attorneys. He has negotiated over 600 labor agreements involving teachers, factory workers, hospital employees, and public employees.

D deeply respects organized labor’s efforts on behalf of its members. “I believe in collective bargaining and that it works for both sides,” D says. “Yet for all parties to succeed and thrive, unions and employers– in both the private and public sectors—need to jointly pursue reasonable, intelligent ways to reduce inefficiencies and boost productivity.”

A founder and former management chair of the State Joint Labor Management Committee (Dunlop Commission), D drafted a portion of the Massachusetts Labor Statute, and worked closely with John Dunlop.

“D is a consummate gentleman,” says Jim Costello, who was a JLMC senior staffer for 23 years. “Watching D and Dusty Aylward of the Fire Fighters work together was just a symphony — a true mastery of the process. They mediated such workable solutions, there was seldom a dissent. It was one of the best experiences of my life.”

Worcester born and raised, D attended Classical High School, a rigorous public preparatory school. A University of MA at Amherst and Boston University Law School graduate, he served two years as an US Army Captain. Returning to Worcester, D became Assistant City Manager and took on the city’s labor relations and collective bargaining.

Since joining Mirick O’Connell in the 1980s, D has practiced labor and employment law, municipal law, education law, and represented public and private schools. A fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, D has been named one of Massachusetts “Super Lawyers” by Boston magazine and Law & Politics every year since 2006.

For D, his family is his bedrock. His tireless work for civic, charitable and faith-based organizations includes serving as Chair of the Worcester Region Chamber of Commerce, President of Catholic Charities of Worcester, and Special Counsel to the Greek Orthodox Archdioceses of Boston and New York and Hellenic College.
