Paul Chabot

Paul Chabot has mediated labor disputes with great skill, discretion, and integrity for almost 30 years. Those he’s worked with cite his quick, deep grasp of issues and situations.

Daniel Hurley, President of UWUA Local 369, points to the resolution of an intense 2012 five-week lock-out at a nuclear power plant: “Paul Chabot was by far the most important person in those talks. (His) calming presence … kept both sides talking. (G)racious when he had to be and brutally honest when we and the company needed to hear the truth.”

Paul has worked with negotiators across many industries, including healthcare, trucking, wire and cable, lighting, utilities, newspapers, retail, shipbuilding, the chemical industry, and the Federal sector. Based out of FMCS’ Rhode Island field office, Paul covers Southeastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Eastern Connecticut.

A talented trainer, Paul is deeply involved in the design and rollout of FMCS training programs. Paul recently returned from China as part of an FMCS mediation training delegation. He’s a recipient of FMCS’ coveted Director’s Award for Excellence. 

Before joining FMCS, Paul served as field representative with the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers, directing collective bargaining activities for the Healthcare Division of that organization. Before RIFT, Paul headed the collective bargaining wing as a labor rep for the Rhode Island State Nurses Association. His responsibilities included organizing, negotiating, and administering twenty collective bargaining agreements in both the public and private sectors.

A University of Rhode Island graduate in political science, he received a Master’s in Labor Relations from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Paul and his wife Janice are the proud parents of Pamela and son-in-law Craig Shevlin, Lauren and her husband Steven Rainome, and Jennifer.
