Youth Caucus Wraps Up Workshops

by Sean Lundergan, Boyle Fellow

The Labor Guild Youth Caucus’s Young Worker Workshops concluded this past week. The four-week series hosted members of Teamsters 25, Carmens 589, Inspectors Union Local 600, Carpenters 339, Massachusetts Nurses Association, Pipefitters 537, Sheetmetal Workers 17, Ironworkers Local 7, USW 12003, SEIU Local 580, and UE.

The topics the workshops covered dealt with a wide variety of issues that affect all workers—our speakers discussed putting labor education to use, internal organizing, coalition building, and fighting racism—but they all affect young workers in unique ways. With a combination of brief lectures, interactive activities and open dialogue, each workshop took on its own energy and provided something useful to students of all unions.

We’d like to thank Rand Wilson, Lisa Field, Mike Vartabedian, Darlene Lombos, Jenn Doe, Allen Lee, Susan Shepherd, and Rep. Liz Miranda for taking the time to offer their insight and experience. We look forward to carrying on the success of these workshops into the Guild Spring Term and our future Youth Caucus events.
