Course Description:
This course will provide an overview of each title listed below, with each topic being covered during 1 of the 5 weeks of class:
1) Steward/ Committee member
2) Chief steward/ Committee chair
3) BOD/ Executive Board/ Trustee
4) Agent/ President/ Sect-Treasurer
5) Business Manager/ Executive Director

This course will include group discussion to contrast different unions and how they are similar or differ. Students are requested to bring a copy of their contract and bylaws and are expected to join in and participate in discussion. Guest speakers will be asked to join us and explain their roles and expectations.

Instructor Bio:
Hi, I’m Deb Sullivan. I have been involved in the labor movement for over 40 years. I am recently retired from the Massachusetts Nurses Association, having previously worked for SEIU and IBEW locals. I have also taught labor studies at U Mass Boston and am an instructor at the Labor Guild. I have a BA and an MS in Labor Studies and am a graduate of the Harvard Trade Union Program. I have been a Parliamentarian since 2013, and am also a certified Mediator. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to give back to the labor movement through my work with the Guild.
