Hardhats to Helmets Massachusetts – Our Building and Construction Unions and Employers Value Veterans. Kudos to All!

On Memorial Day Weekend, let’s highlight something  particularly great — Our local Helmets to Hardhats Program.

All praise to our Massachusetts Building and Construction Unions and their Contractors for all their hard work and dedication to making the Helmets to Hardhats program a success.

Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) places men and women from the Armed Forces into promising building and construction careers. Acceptance into the building and construction trades enables veterans to earn while they learn a great trade with a defined career path.  

A building and construction trade union card offers an express lane into the Middle Class with all the financial stability that once implied: working under a collective-bargaining agreement for competitive wages with consistent raises; they receive benefits, typically including family health care and retirement benefits; flexibility when taking time off; plus lifelong learning opportunities.

The United States Department of Labor predicts a dramatic shortfall in our nation’s industry workforce over the next five years. At the same time, 80 percent of our soldiers leaving the military are in need of good jobs with good benefits, so they may provide stable environments for their families. So many of these veterans come to the program after years of military service handling complex assignments and tremendous responsibilities. A win-win  solution  all around, this productive partnership between union training and apprenticeship programs and the Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) program delivers a talented and highly-trained workforce in a variety of skilled trades.
