Learning at the Landing – Guild School starts Sept 10th
If you’ve never attended our School of Labor-Management Relations, take the leap! In our 60 years, more than 35,000 working adults have taken Guild classes. Many find the experience so rewarding that they return for eight, twelve, even twenty-plus terms running. Join us!
Since 1953, the Labor Guild’s adult evening School has delivered accessible, low-cost, top-quality labor education and professional development to workers and the labor management community. All are welcome!
Our Guild School’s motto: Learn. Share. Grow.
Each Spring and Fall, Guild classes are held Monday nights for nine weeks. Students select two courses (at 7 pm and 8:20 pm) per term from a roster of ten to twelve courses. You can choose from:
- Core courses in steward training, labor law, negotiating, arbitration, and public speaking.
- Specialty courses designed to give students a solid grounding and review of best practices in a multiple subject areas, including economics, health care, pensions, contract costing, social media, organizing, campaign management, labor history, social ethics, workers’ compensation, and much more.
Informal, interactive classes. No tests. No grades.
Consistent with our intense focus on the practical, there are no exams or grades.* Guild students are challenged to take from classroom exchange whatever applies to their own unique situation. The background of the Guild’s instructors enables them to conduct lively interactive classes, building on the real-world work and labor relations experiences of the student body. Afterclass discussions often spill into the hallways.
$100 for a 2-course term = Extraordinary Value.
Our instructors serve without regular compensation, and view their teaching here as a contribution to workplace justice. Such generosity inspires a spirit of enthusiasm and solidarity in our student body. At the same time, it also allows the Guild to offer our school program at minimal cost.
